INTERVIEWSName: Daniel Mole Age: 23 D.o.b: 16/12/1979 Posts: Goalkeeper This experienced and exciting Goalkeeper is one of the founder members of the Electric Shrews FC. He is well respected by his teammates and fellow professionals, an all-round world performer. 1)What is your first memory of playing football? My first footballing memory was when I was about 5 years old playing in my back garden with my brother and dad. Football has alway been a big part of my life. 2)Has Colin Lee given you any tactical knowledge or tips, which you can pass onto your fellow shrews? Working under Colin Lee has shown me the importance of a great team spirit. You can have the best players in the world but if they dont get on with each other, they will never achieve their potential. In terms of tactics, the biggest thing I have learnt is just to talk and trust your teammates and always remain vocal on the pitch. 3)The Electric Shrews have come along way since last October. Would you consider yourselves serious title challengers or is this a honeymoon period waiting to explode in 2003? Ironically, I think relegation is the best thing to have happened to The Shrews. The step down in class has given us the confidence to play our own brand of exciting and committed football. I think promotion is a realistic target because, as a squad, we have the ability to play at a higher level. 4)Your commitment to the shrews has not gone unnoticed, how are you finding life playing two roles of a midfielder and a goalkeeper? The Shrews are in my blood and wherever the gaffer wants me to play, I will play. At the moment I’m between the sticks and will continue there until Loz Gibson sees fit. I think since I’ve been Number One, we look more solid as a team and are third in the league, so if it benefits the team, I’m happy. But at the same time, back-up ‘keeper Gavinder Chahal is keeping me on my toes and knowing I could lose my place has helped me maintain a good level of performance this season. 5)People have praised you for finding such a young talent in Wayne Owen, (dubbed as the next Michael Owen). What tips have you given him in order to keep his head up and not waste the skill he possesses? Just to keep doing what he’s doing. He’s got the potential to go a long way in the game and to be honest; it is his form that has reverted me into a keeper. It’s nice to know that we have talent coming through the ranks, especially ones as exciting as Wayne. There’s been a lot of talk in the press about Wayne Rooney, but I’m more than happy with our Wayne thank you very much! 6)As well as your full-time job with the Saddlers, and your regular visits to the bizarre café, for a massive fry-up. How do you find the time to exercise your body, apart from sleeping? Probably not as much as I should! I cycle about 10 miles a week and do about 25 sit-ups an evening. It’s not a lot but its start and the way we’ve been leaking goals recently, I get plenty of exercise during a game! 7)As youngsters, we all had boyhood heroes, is there anyone in particular that was your favourite? As a kid, my hero was Diego Maradona. He is by far the greatest natural talent to have ever played the beautiful game. He single-handidly won the Italian Championship for Napoli and the World Cup with Argentina and in my opinion, no other player, including Pele, is fit to lace his boots. Nowadays, I look up to the likes of Jimmy Walker. A model professional who is loyal to his team and always performs to his capabilities. 8)You have a respectable record in shrews’ colours. What can we expect from Danny Mole this season? To continue my growing reputation as the league's best goalkeeper. I enjoyed playing out last season but at the moment I feel I’m more beneficial to the team in goal. We have the third best defensive record in the league this season as opposed to the worst last season. I think I’m the best shot-stopper in the league and hopefully, if I can keep them out, the likes of Chamberlain, Owen and Chahal can continue to score at the other end. 9)What are your goals and targets for the future at this elite club? Promotion is our first target and I honestly believe we can achieve that this season. Lyndhurst Lions look the best team in the league but they have yet to face the mighty Shrews. Long term, like any player, I would like a trophy in the cabinet. I think on our day we can beat anybody, so lifting the cup would be a dream come true. This club has the potential and vision to go a long way in the 5-aside game and I want to be part of it, either grabbing the goals or making the saves, whatever the gaffer wants from me. 10)Who’s the best player you have ever played alongside? And why? This is a tough one. Former Bromsgrove and Kidderminster striker Ben Jordan was an immense talent. I also played alongside Albion’s Chambers twins but I never really rated either of them so I’ll go for Ian Chamberlain. ‘Chambo’s’ a model footballer who always give 110%, he’s a pleasure to work with and on his day, he’s a match for anyone. |
